In this class\, we leverage the Scratch Programming language from MIT to control Robots and make them move\, turn\, change lights\, make sounds. This sensory approach to learning helps individuals with varying range of abilities get a better understanding of the programming concepts and the opportunity to participate in the larger Robotics movement.  No knowledge of programming is necessary to learn Scratch. Buddies help support our clients at every step as needed. In the last series\, clients build a Robot from a kit\, write to control the Robot\, and show you the different tricks that you can do with the Robot. In the last session\, the students worked on controlling the Robot using a remote and doing other fun things with the Robot. \n

SUMMARY:Conversation Skills Program
DESCRIPTION:Timings: Sept – May\, Wednesdays (6:00 – 7:00pm) \nPre-requisites: No prereq \nInstructor: Ramya Raman (Coordinator) \nThis program will provide clients training in mock conversations/emails in handling different real world scenarios. Structured interactions would help differently abled youth volunteers to get out of their comfort zone and actively engage in various kinds of conversations. This will help clients learn key skills that can help them in whatever vocation they aspire to learn and prepare them for day-to-day scenarios. The unique factor about this program is to enable clients who want to use text to speech technology. Familiarity with this technology can open up so many opportunities that involve speech for our clients who are not verbal.

SUMMARY:Robotics
DESCRIPTION:Timings: Sept – May\, Sundays (10 – 11:00am) \nPre-requisites: No prereq (scratch knowledge a plus) \nInstructor: Sandip Parekh \nSeeing physical movement and controlling the behavior of Robots using programs makes programming more interesting. \n
